Butler appointed as a Labour Vice Chair

Dawn Butler, the MP for Brent South, has been appointed as one of the Labour Party’s new Vice Chairs.  Butler, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Youth Affairs and an Honorary Vice President of the British Youth Council, will be responsible for youth in her new role.

Commenting on the appointment of the six Labour Party Vice Chairs, Harriet Harman MP, Labour’s Deputy Leader and Party Chair, welcoming their appointment, said:
“I look forward to working with this high calibre team of vice chairs in the Party on these important challenges.”

This will appear churlish, but I hope everyone remembers there is no provision for vice-chairs in the Labour Party Rule Book. The political tragedy is that while the British Constitutional changes proposed in the House of Commons are set out in a Green Paper. The same principles have not been applied by our new Leader to changes to the Labour Party..it’s just more Command from No. 10. Wouldn’t all those who have been ‘appointed’ prefered to have been elected?
