Young, gifted and black
4 11 2007
The Independent on Sunday has published a feature today celebrating the achievements of 60 “young, gifted and black” people in the fields of politics, arts and literature, performance arts, fashion and design (see fashion designer, Kesh, below), business and media and sport.
The political personalities were chosen by founder and director of Operation Black Vote, Simon Woolley. They include:
Labour Party Vice Chair, Dawn Butler MP (“one of the hardest working MPs”); Community Activist, Anthony Thomas (“it won’t be long before this firebrand makes the transition to politician”); Skills Minister David Lammy MP (“he’ll give the Miliband brothers a run for their money”); equality and diversity consultant Merlene Carrington (“she believes staunchly in taking responsibility for change”); TMP editor and employment lawyer, Chuka Umunna (“he may end up as the UK’s Barack Obama); and, Conservative Party parliamentary candidate, Shaun Bailey (“Bright as a button and positively oozing confidence”).
