Cleaners organised by Industrial Workers of Great Britain have recently won the London Living Wage at the offices of Société Générale. Their contractor, Initial Facilities has now spontaneously decided to cut their hours by 50%, devastatingly cutting their wages and demand the same quality of work in less time.
The workers are responding by organising a mass picket outside the offices, supported by activists from PCS, Unison and RMT.
Chris Ford, IWGB General Secretary states:
“There is clearly no justification for this shameful cut in the cleaners hours driving poor workers even further into poverty. Societe Generale may boast of its charitable work in the East End of London to overcome inequality but at home it is showing callous disregard for those who do the dirty work cleaning their bank.”
