We live in troubled times. The economy is in tatters, the welfare state is being dismantled before our eyes. The police roam free with water canons and the bankers get fatter while the rest of us get poorer. Here at The Multicultural Politic, we aim to bring you cutting-edge commentary and fierce analysis to survive and organise in these difficult days.
But sometimes analysis just isn’t enough. Sometimes you need to get lost in the beat, in the voice, in the chaos of the dancefloor. Sometimes you need to succumb to the sleazy, sweaty drama of celebrity gossip; of desperate, fabulous lives lived in the spotlight, that shine with their imminent too-early demise.
This Saturday (1st June) come and recover from bashing the fash at:
DIVAS DEAD AND DYING
9pm – 2am at Resistance Gallery, Bethnal Green (the main room is wheelchair accessible)
What makes a diva? Is it the voice, the clothes, the attitude? Is it the tragic back story and self destructive ways? Is Divahood found in a drug problem, late conversion to Christianity, terrible attempt at an acting career? What gave Amy (RIP) that diva death glow? There’s no defining diva, but you know when one arrives.
We’re celebrating all things diva, with music from:
Naz (The Closet Mixtape)
Anne (Pan-Asian Mum)
Nick (Bad Reputation)
Anita & Shez
Expect to hear Whitney Houston – Amy Winehouse – Etta James – Donna Summer – Cher – Nina Simone – Stevie Nicks – Billie Holiday – Lauryn Hill – Dolly Parton – Poly Styrene – Dionne Warwick – Mariah Carey – Asha Bhosle – Diana Ross – and many more!
