Why I’m standing for Unite Against Fascism Assistant Secretary
Why I’m standing for Unite Against Fascism Assistant Secretary
As a dedicated anti-fascist and socialist, I’ve worked with many people to fight against hatred and ideologies that divides communities and can lead to genocide. In 2008, after the British National Party got elected to the Greater London Authority, Croydon Trade Union Council and Battersea & Wandsworth Trade Union Council decided to set up South London Anti-Fascists Group, which has worked with both Unite Against Fascism (UAF) and Hope Not Hate as well as other groups.
I have chaired South London Anti-Fascists Group for the last 4 years, in that time we have:
- Led local campaigns with support from across the Left – from anarchists to Labour councillors
- Built alliances in local trade union councils, branches as well as migrant, LGBT and faith communities
- Used direct action to disrupt BNP activity
- Reduce the BNP’s vote through community organising
Could America’s sabre rattling in Syria, lead to war in Iran and China?
by Adam Ford / @neon_black81

The United States government is aggressively ratcheting-up its drive for global domination, by menacing Syria, Iran and ultimately China. Though on the one hand American politicians speak of hopes for diplomacy, they are preparing for war with all three nations, in a reckless thrust which threatens the future of humanity. But in the minds of imperial planners, the possibility of life’s destruction in a nuclear holocaust is as nothing compared with the need to win on the ‘grand chessboard’.
The US economy has long been in a relative economic decline when compared with the Eurozone and especially the hugely expanding China – a nation frequently labelled “the sweatshop of the world”. For the last fifteen years, the American ruling class has responded with an attempt to use its overwhelming military supremacy to offset its production-based profitability crisis. Wars in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq and most recently Libya have all cut across the material interests of Chinese empire-building. But the global economic turmoil has pushed this imperative into overdrive, creating the strong possibility of a final showdown with China itself, plus Chinese allies such as Russia.

[VIDEO] How food market speculation is starving the world’s poor
From WEED
What needs to be done
To prevent financial speculators from generating profits at the cost of the poot, we need strong regulation of commodity derivatives markets. This includes:
• Trade on transparent exchanges or clearing houses
• High margin requirements for Over-the-counter trade
• Reporting and public reports
• Price oversight and price limits
• Prevention of excessive speculation through position limits
• Trading prohibition for institutional funds, mutual funds and for proprietary trading
• Control of the speculation by multinational commodity companies
• Transaction tax on commodity derivatives trading
Construction Workers Demonstrations continue at Ratcliffe Power Station
Construction workers, members of the country’s largest trade union, Unite, will be staging a protest outside Ratcliffe power station between 6am and 8.30am tomorrow (Wednesday, 1 February) in an on-going dispute over proposals to make up to 30 per cent pay cuts as rogue employers are de-skill the industry.
Workers at Ratcliffe power station in Nottinghamshire will be demonstrating as its major contractor, Spie Matthew Hall is part of a group of breakaway construction companies, which are imposing semi-skilled grades onto the mechanical and electrical sector.
Unite regional officer, Steve Syson, said: “Our members are extremely angry at these proposed changes which are not only an attack on long standing and highly regarded industry agreements, but a serious attack on thousands of construction workers livelihoods.
What happened the Heat or Eat Occupation of British Gas HQ

At approximately 8.45 am six of us occupied two meeting rooms at British Gas HQ. Since then police have attempted to break in and force us out.
British Gas have now asked us to engage in “negotiations” over our demands. Here is our response.
How can ordinary people have a dialogue with energy companies which wield so much power over our daily lives? Will they bear responsibility for people’s lives – such as the 2.7 thousand estimated to die this winter as a direct result of fuel poverty in the UK, and the millions threatened by climate change?

The Tweeted #PMQs on Welfare Reform Bill Day
So it was the big day for Welfare Reform Bill, with plans of cutting benefit to disabled children, cancer patients and families living in adequate accommodation. Labour had a big chance to show whose side they were on and… well read it for yourself.
Farrely (Lab): You are cutting front line officers. Stop that shit
PM: Labour support the cuts and we’re sacking police pen pushers
